With all the concerns about our environment, we at Reicks View Farms have decided to do our part.  After doing a lot of research we have discovered many ways in which we are able to help. Anywhere from turning off lights, (which we should all do anyway), to the way we farm our land.  As a small business, it has been very important to us here at Reicks View Farms to become aware of the number of things that we can do towards helping our environment. Here are just a few of the things that we at Reicks View Farms are doing to create a more “earth friendly” business environment.

Reuseable Heat Saving Energy

In the barns and truck washes, RVF has had a heat exchanger installed to reuse the heat that is produced inside the building, which in turn helps in using less fuel.  In the barns the exchanger uses the heat produced by the animals and heats the fresh air to return back into the building in the form of heat.  In the truck washes the heat exchanger recaptures the heat produced from the steam in the air, therefore heating the fresh air returning into the building.

Tree Planting

Reicks View Farms has a tree planting project that involves the planting of trees around all their facilities.  Willow trees and evergreens are planted to give back to our environment that which we have used.  The trees help to filter the air from odors, give shelter for small wildlife, and also to give eye appeal to our environment.

We Use Recycled Materials

Reicks View Farms recycles steel and rubber for use in our loading chutes.

We use disposable mats in our facilities that are biodegradable and are made from cornstalks.

In our latest remodeling project there was recycled wall covering used.  This was made from used plastic such as milk jugs.

In our office we recycle all our used ink cartridges from our printers, we purchase paper made from recycled paper.  We also recycle office paper, and use the back of the paper when it is possible.  We cut up paper that has been used only on one side and re-use them for writing daily notes to ourselves instead of using notepads.  I know it sounds minor, but if everyone would do this we would save a lot of trees.

Energy Savings

We use all energy saving light bulbs in our facilities.

Renewable Fertilizer

We use natural bi-product that is over 95% renewable fertilizer to nourish the fields instead of using commercial fertilizer.

In Office Recycling

We have stopped using styrofoam cups and paper towels in our office and other facilities. We purchased coffee mugs for all employees so they would no longer need to use the throw away cups, and use towels that are laundered.

No More Styrofoam!!!

We package our meat without the use of styrofoam trays. Our pulled pork is packaged in a re-useable container.

Think Green

Reicks View Farms had a “think green” contest for employees to send in their ideas for Reicks View Farms to use that would better our environment.  Employees are given “think green” ideas in the monthly news letter that they can practice at home.
